TraceWay User Guide
Getting Started
Download TraceWay from the App Store and open it. On first launch, TraceWay will request location permission — select Always Allow so that recording continues in the background.
Recording a Route
Navigate to the Map tab. Tap the record button to start a session. Your path will appear on the map in real time as you move. You can pause the session at any time and resume it later. When you are done, tap the stop button and confirm to save the recording.
Viewing Statistics
While recording, tap the statistics bar at the bottom of the screen to expand a detailed view. The Real-Time tab shows your current location: live coordinates, altitude, speed, and accuracy. The Session tab shows totals for the current recording session: distance, elapsed time, average and maximum speed, and cumulative ascent and descent. The Segment tab shows the same statistics scoped to a single track segment — useful when a session spans multiple pauses and resumes.
Managing Your Recordings
Navigate to the Recordings tab to browse all saved routes. Tap any recording to open its detail view, which shows the full route on a map alongside a breakdown of statistics and track segments.
Exporting a Route
From a recording’s detail view, tap the share button in the top-right corner. You can save the GPX file to the Files app, share it with another app, or AirDrop it to another device.
Troubleshooting
Location not updating during recording: Ensure TraceWay has Always location permission in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → TraceWay.
Recording stopped unexpectedly: Background location access may have been revoked. Check the permission above. TraceWay automatically saves progress in real time, so your data up to the interruption will be recoverable on next launch.
